Landmark STAR*D-Child report. Over the year after maternal treatment, children's psychiatric
symptoms decreased only when the mother's depression remitted, and functioning improved
mainly for children of early remitters. Among children with a baseline diagnosis, remission
reached 33% when the mother remitted vs 12% when she did not, supporting "treating the parent
helps the child."
