Dunedin birth cohort (~1,000 children followed to age 32). Childhood self-control predicted adult
physical health, finances, substance dependence and criminal offending in a dose-response gradient,
even adjusting for IQ and social class. Among the strongest longitudinal evidence that early
self-regulation matters for life outcomes. (Self-control is related to, but broader than, emotion
regulation.)
