Parental emotion socialization and internalizing problems in childhood and adolescence: A meta-analytic review

Meta-analytic review of supportive vs nonsupportive parental emotion-socialization behaviors and child internalizing problems (supportive k=50, N~10,698; nonsupportive k=47, N~10,970). Supportive responses showed a very small negative association with internalizing (r~-.06); nonsupportive responses a stronger positive association (r~.18). Unsupportive responses carry more weight than supportive ones.
